Post by fortyshooter » Wed Apr 08, 2020 10:21 pm

I just came across this video. That is moving for a standard pressure 158 gr. 38 Special +P !! :o
Wonder if their bullets come from MB?

And you'll notice he shot them out of a .357 4" revolver (I noticed it on the barrel) and I couldn't tell but the snub looks like a Taurus 605 which is .357 mag as well.

He did not mention any pressure reports but that stuff looked pretty hot - even out of the 4" .357.

It would be interesting to know what powder and charge weight they use for this round.

I would not shoot it out of a revolver rated at .38 Special only.

I quite like the Underwood ammo, especially their Xtreme Defense/ Xtreme Penetrator line. They tend to load these copper Lehigh bullets much hotter than Lehigh does.Unfortunately if you want to buy just those bullets, you have to order from Lehigh or a place like MidwayUSA. Underwood is really responsive to customer questions and they seem very eager to do additional chronograph testing and load development if requested. Highly recommended!

Agree, especially with your thumbs-up recommendation, JD. I've shot these .357 rounds out of a Ruger SP101 4.25" revolver. Get a handle on the recoil, and you'll have very accurate POIs.

several times over the years I've strongly considered purchasing some of their .429 High Velocity Xtreme Penetrator 250gr Bullets ===> https://www.lehighdefense.com/index.php ... 0gr-bullet ..... I'd love to see how they would perform in our BBS 44 Mag .... no desire to fire a hot one in our Redhawk

I bought a box of their 265 gr. LWN-GC 41 Mag. ammo.
Very accurate out of the BBS, pretty much a ragged hole at 50 yds.
Never shot any from the BH.

I have a box of both weights... I noticed that the heavier bullets have a faster “operating range”, starting at 1500 fps rather than 750. I suspect that they would be a fantastic choice for a .444 Marlin, but in a .44 Mag it will be hard to reach those speeds due to a shortage of volume for the powder. They are longer than a Hornady 300 gr XP! Rather than run it below its ideal range just push the lighter bullet as fast as possible. It will penetrate, no need for an extra 30 grains, especially if it is in the middle of the fps sweet spot.

I would not have bought the heavy bullets if I had seen the true specs, the website says 750-4200 for these. I suspect they will not stabilize at all in a slow twist barrel like older Henrys.

Someone at Lehigh needs to proofread their labels before printing them.

Check out the speeds in the lower left corner of the 250 grainers on the top box!
