6.5mm Creedmoor
the 6.5mm Creedmoor cartridge is one I have no personal experience with .... with Henry selecting it as one of its calibers for their Long Ranger, it peaked my curiosity .... my bullets of choice are made by Nosler and from reading their manual, the 6.5 was originally designed to be used in long range shooting competitions ....one of the comments taken from the link below really got my attention: " Long-range shooter Ray "RayDog" Sanchez summarized the bolt-action Tubb 2000 rifle in 6.5mm Creedmoor as "boringly accurate" at 1,000 yards" .... in recent years bullet manufactures have begun to produce high quality hunting bullets .... I'd enjoy hearing personal observations from folks who have personal experience using (specially hunting) a 6.5 Creedmoor

Re: 6.5mm Creedmoor
Ditto. I want a single shot for longer range work than my 357 is capable of. The venerable 308 is my first choice, but I keep hearing about 6.5 as a better round. As always, bullet weight vs Fps is an issue. Interested in anyone's input. Largest game will be the typical whitetail.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: 6.5mm Creedmoor
Not a lot of experience with it but son picked up a howa earlier this year.
It is pretty much a ballistic twin of the 6.5x55 that has been around since the late 1800's. The 6.5x55 gets used on moose in the scandinavian countries so more than enough for whitetails.

Re: 6.5mm Creedmoor
Single shot would have to be a 308, I believe. No such thing as a Creedmoor single shot (so far, anyway) from HRA. 308 SS would definitely give you all you need for distance hunting, though, and the recoil (in the LR anyway) isn't bad at all.

Re: 6.5mm Creedmoor
Yes my reason for asking the question was just to see if he was waiting for Henry to chamber that round in the Henry Single shot. 308 in the Henry would be a good choice if single shot is desired.

Re: 6.5mm Creedmoor
Agreed, but now that you mention it, it seems like a SS Creedmoor wouldn't be that much of a stretch. I mean, some of us were scratching our heads when they came out with the LR in Creedmoor, but now it just seems to make sense. Single shot might follow the same product development pattern.

Re: 6.5mm Creedmoor
It would not be difficult to replace a .308 barrel with a 6.5 Creedmoor barrel they are both short action and any barrel maker could produce one chambered for the 6.5 to fit whatever action you want to fit it too.

Re: 6.5mm Creedmoor
Yeah, I am interested in the possibility of Henry adding the 6.5 to the single shot line. I am not completely sold on 6.5 over 308. A lot of history behind the 308. We know it is a solid performer. Plus, I really like fatter bullets. Lol

Re: 6.5mm Creedmoor
The 6.5 Creedmoor is much more ballistically efficient than then.308 due to its bullet shape it may have a lower muzzle velocity but at 600 yards it is travelling faster than the .308 and shows less drop and less drift than .308. It is actually a better performer over 1200 yards than.308.
