New H009B - What Ammo Should I Start Trying
I just received my new H009B and headed to buy ammo. I know that every rifle prefers certain branded ammo.
Just wondering (with your .30-30 lever experience) what I should start out with at the range.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum from Wickiup Junction, Oregon!
I recommend you start with 125 grain bullet weight ammo to keep recoil down.

I have several 30-30's, ( Marlin & Winchester) all shoot real well with either Blue box Federals 150 and 170 gr.
The 170's seem to edge the other in the Marlins, sorry I don't have a Henry 30-30,

same as, Vaquero and go from there. A lot of 30/30 owners like the Hornady 160g. FTX ammo.

Welcome to the Forum from KC! Glad you're here and congrats on your new 30-30.
I did a fair amount of factory ammo range testing last fall when I got my 30-30.
Here's the range report. Winchester Silvertip is very nice, as I recall...

Brands I've shot with my H009B. Best to worse in my opinion/experience.
Federal Fusion
Federal PowerShok
Winchester Powerpoint Deer & Black Bear
Remmington CoreLokt
I no longer buy the Winchester or Remmington .30-30 ammo.
And welcome from the TV, Oregon!

One not mentioned that shot very well in my Marlin and Winchester lever guns and is very affordable, compared to the Hornady lever evolution stuff, is the Hornady Whitetail 30-30 150s.

Well my thing is I load most of my own so I really don't use that much factory ammo regularly.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2019 8:01 pmOne not mentioned that shot very well in my Marlin and Winchester lever guns and is very affordable, compared to the Hornady lever evolution stuff, is the Hornady Whitetail 30-30 150s.
But do like to try a couple different loads when I get a new rifle.
And have had some really good results with the federals I mentioned earlier.
I'd be curious to see if they performed as well in the Henry's.
Anyone tried those?

Like Vaquero, I haven't shot factory stuff in my 30-30 for years. But, at the range, it seems a good number of 30-30 shooters use Fed "Fusion" ammo. Have very good reviews on that as well. Hope that helps. Do you plan to handload for it later on?
