Is there any 22 mag ammo to stay away from and why?

You learn very little the second time you get kicked by a horse.

I love my Henry Silver Eagle H004SEM!

For accuracy work, I go to one of the various 30 grain poly tipped loads. These have given me the best accuracy, overall, in the 22 nags I have owned, though some guns, even with these, can be very picky about which brands they like the best. Standard 40 grain loads can also be quite accurate in some individual guns.

The bottom line for me with accuracy in the 22 mag, though, has always been more the gun than the ammo. The gun, not so much the ammo, has been the big variable in the 22 mags that I have owned. Never know quite what to expect on a new 22 mag when I buy one. A few have been great, but a lot of them have been a disappointment in the accuracy department.

I prefer CCI .22 mini-mag. They shoot accurately out of my .22LR Rossi pump.

Any particular brand or style of gun that might be best or is 22 mag or is just a crap shoot because of the tolerances they use with their chambers or barrels? Would you say the Winchester Low Wall built by Miroku would be a good bet?

Oh, yeah, for me it has been a crap shoot. One of the worst, ever, for instance was a CZ varmint in 22 mag, Go figure. On the other hand, our current Miroku Low Wall Hunter 22 mag has been one of my best ever 22 mags. Will do 5 shots under an inch at 100 yards, which is about as good as it gets in a 22 mag for me.

It's a shame but I have hardly shot my .22 mag. It's too loud for the yard, and I haven't been to a range in years :(

I have hundreds of rounds of all types of WMR sitting here, but it's hard to justify driving 40 miles to shoot WMR, when I can shoot LR in my yard w/o anybody caring. I prefer to keep it that way 8-)

But I agree with Mags, the MaxiMags would be a good starting point. They may not be the best but a good all round cartridge, though many report better accuracy out of the lighter loads (NCG).

I only have one .22 magnum rifle - the Henry Frontier model H001TM. The CCI maxi-mag 40 grain JHP and the Remington 40 grain JHP ammo has done very well in my rifle. The CCI maxi-mag 30 grain V-Max ammo does extremely well from my rifle. These 3 types of ammo have worked very well for me, so I have not tried any other .22 mag ammo.

I second the CCI V-Max in my SGC. It also did pretty well with Federal 50 grain.

I have a number of .22 WMR rifles from CZ, Remington, and Henry. Each has its favorite, but all of them shoot well with the Aguila offering in the brass case. Not sure if they are still called 'Silver Eagle' without the nickel plating, or not. It is a 40 grain semi-jacketed soft point with a flat nose.

Largely depends on the gun. I have 2 .22mags. A 9422m Winchester, and a Ruger lcr. The LCR gets loaded with a mix of Hornady 45 gr Critical Defense and CCI snake shot. The Win will eat whatever I feed it.
