Re: 223 - Buy or Reload?
My take on the 223 at the moment.
I don't think I can load and save any money, right now.
Just say you already have the brass, as I do.
Got over a thousand sitting in two coffee cans already primed.
You have brass, primers are .03-035¢, bullets start at what .16, .17¢, and at least a dimes worth of powder.
So nearly .30¢ if you have the brass.
Right now I just buy the ammo at a good price, shoot and save brass.
But I am still buying components, because in a couple years we know things will change.

I don't bother reloading .223 as I can find it very cheap around here. I hardly load .9mm for the same reason. I'll load .9mm every once in a while.

Re: 223 - Buy or Reload?
I have thrown away all my .556/military brass as I have plenty of .223 ‘civilian’ brass which does not require primer pocket reaming.
I don’t shoot .223 enough where I need to stockpile up on brass so I can be picky about it.

.
Sale at the local BiMart right now, 29cents per round. Also Remington is running a rebate at the moment yields .35cents per round. Most common price around here is 40cents per round. So ya, not much room for reload savings, especially when on sale and ya stock up.

Re: 223 - Buy or Reload?
I picked up a 300-round "Black Pack" of AE 223s at Academy over the weekend, for $93, including tax, or $.31/round. Today, I mailed in my $.05/rebate stuff to bring it down to $.26. Figure that's enough to get me started on reloading down the road.
Now I'd better buy the rifle, huh?
