Anyone tied new Winchester 45gr .22lr

Post by Blackdog » Mon Feb 25, 2019 7:33 am

Winchester has a 45gr .22LR ammo that runs just under subsonic. Have any of you tried it yet? I'm interested in your 100 yard group size.
In the past I have found Winnies to be rather inaccurate, just wondering how the new one are doing.

Sorry, Winchester rimfire is on my No Buy List. Had too many problems with them a few years back.

There is, I think, humor here which does not translate well from English to sanity. - Sanya

Same here - But this is "new" stuff - thought I'd ask first.

Will range test tomorrow and report finding.

Tested the Winchester 45gr this weekend. At 100 yards it hit the same point of impact at CCI Std Vel.
Using a peep sight I can keep the groups to 3" at 100 yards - Winchester showed the same accuracy.
Lever Actin Silhouette match this weekend - I plan to us the 45gr Winchesters for 100 yard rams.
Results to follow.

Sounds like an interesting round. Probably intended for hunting?

I usually shoot CCI Standard Velocity ammo in Lever Actin Silhouette .22 matches. The .22 is marginal for Pistol Cartridge matches - the 100 yard rams are issue - too heavy for .22LR.
Yesterday I tried Winchester 45gr Supper Suppressor .22LR and knocked down every ram I hit. The Winchester hit the same point of impact at 100 yards as CCI and simply changed ammo - nothing else.

Didn't win, but that wasen't the ammo's fault.

Will I buy more - you bet!

Yes, PC Rams at the Austin Rifle Club. I've had the same targets stay up with hits from .22 magnum and Norma Tac22 ammo. The guy I was spotting lost two to .22 magnum ammo. One hit was center above the front leg...that usually produces a "ringer", but it fell with the 45gr.
Not sure I'd trust them with Raton rams, but I'm not going to New Mexico this year anyway.

This is very interesting.
I'm going to have to get some and experiment.
