New Cartridge from Winchester

Post by Blackdog » Tue Jan 22, 2019 9:54 am

Winchester is introducing a new cartridge on the market. Looks like a perfect fit for lever guns. I'll be watching his one

that would most certainly be in interesting cartridge ....

350 Legend Cartridge Features

More ENERGY than 30-30 Win, 300 Blackout and 223 Rem
World’s fastest straight-walled cartridge
Approximately 20% LESS RECOIL than 243 Win with 20% more PENETRATION
LESS RECOIL than 450 Bushmaster
With an effective deer hunting range up to 250 yards, it deposits more energy than 5.56mm, 300 Blackout, and .30-30 Win.
Utilizes modified straight-walled .223 Rem shellcase and a .357 diameter bullet
Compliant in states that allow straight wall cartridges for deer hunting **

one concern ---- as shown, I don't see any mention of it being safe for use in tubular magazines

Doesn't appear likely with those bullets. Would probably have to come out with a flat point or a gummy tip, but, even then, there would be a potential liability issue because sooner or later, someone would stick one of those spire points in a tubular mag and have an accident. That's why factory ammo for cartridges designed for use in tubular mags have never been offered in a spire point option. Other than a bolt action, best bet for this new cartridge in a Henry would be the single shot or the Long Ranger.

The pic of the rounds in the link about it shows a FP & RN so maybe those will be offered as well.
It will no doubt be a great round to reload as one will be able to use .357 pistol bullets in it.

Interesting! I looked at the WInchester Web site to check out the ballistics. You can easily compare it to the .35 Remington, since it's right next to it on the list. The 180 grain Power Point in the new round and a 200 grain Power Point .35 Remington are awfully close to the same in performance. Maybe Henry will decide to chamber this round in their rifles, since it's a shiny new thing ;) . I still think I'd prefer the .35 Remington, though.

Comparing the Balistics of the 35rem and the Legend in 180gr bullets the 35rem wins.
The Legend bullets are .357 the 35rem are .358.
The Legend is rimless case and so is the 35rem.
