.44 Mag Buffalo Bore in Henry Carbine?

Post by fortyshooter » Fri Dec 28, 2018 2:55 pm

Going thru my ammo I found a box of BB Heavy .44 Mag 305 gr. hard cast FP rated at 1325 FPS.
I measured the COL and it is 1.625. Have fired that length thru my new Big Boy steel carbine and it feeds great.
Originally I bought these for the Ruger SBH Hunter I used to own but never shot them.

They ought to have some punch coming out the Henry!

You may have a problem with that. Due to the higher pressures it will generate in the longer barrel (and no cylinder to bore gap to relieve some of that pressure), you might have some extraction problems. I had this happen with hot loads in my .41 BBSC.

take a look at the info from Buffalo Bore in this link ===> https://www.buffalobore.com/index.php?l ... etail&p=48 .... which states in part :

"You’ll note my below velocities from over-the-counter revolvers and rifles.

➤ 1,328 fps -- Ruger Bisley cut down to 6-inches
➤ 1,331 fps -- Ruger Red Hawk 5.5-inch
➤ 1,779 fps -- Marlin 1894 18.5-inch
Item 4A is recommended for all STEEL revolvers and rifles on today’s market."
