CCI 45gr .22LR Suppressor Ammo

Post by Blackdog » Sat Nov 24, 2018 9:00 am

This is new to me - CCI is making a 45gr HP .22LR round that is subsonic. It is said to expand at low velocity - must be very soft lead?- and had fairly good accuracy.
Has anyone tried it at 50 and 100 yards? On paper it appears to be a good Lever Action Silhouette round, but I'd like to hear from someone with has tried it at the range.
Anyone tried it yet?

I can't speak of group size, but I use it around the back yard, and my 10/22 likes it...Minute Of Chipmunk is good enough for me. This is the lowest velocity .22 LR round (970 FPS, IIRC) that my semi-auto rimfires will cycle reliably.

What I really need to know is - what does it do at 100 yards?
I expect a lot of elevation drop at 970fps, but if it groups well I might like it.

I wonder about twist rates. My guess is this is only good to 25 yards at the very most

SH is correct on this.
Most of the 'subsonic' or other 'quiet' ammo is limited on range - less powder/propellant = less velocity at the muzzle.

A user at another forum suggests the practical limit is 30-40yds. http://forum.snipershide.com/threads/cc ... ds.148334/
In another part of the same thread, another user says when used with a suppressor all you can hear is the firing pin hit the round and the round hitting the target.

I found some Federal 45gr Suppressor ammo that runs 910 fps. Bought a box and found it about the same as CCI SV at 50 yards. It had significant drop at 100 yards, but shot predictable groups of about 3".
I'm shooting a Williams Peep Sight, so a scope would improve my groups.
I found the Federal 45gr Suppressor load to be to be good, but not a replacement for CCI SV.
