.490 lead Round Balls

Post by dasmoeturhead » Wed Feb 10, 2021 8:27 am

Having a difficult time finding any. I normally use Hornaday. 490 round balls, but can't find any. I saw some Traditions. 490 round ball 175 grain. Never used them. Has anybody on here used them before. If so, do the shoot straight? Thanks for any info, and watch yer topknot.

Hey Moetur I hate it when you cant find ur balls. Give October Country a call and see what they can do. There great people Im told and cast there own. Also Track Of the Wold has some 495 cast balls in stock. You could use them and just use a smaller patch. Ed Heathwaite at Maplewood Bullets will also cast you some. I have shot his and they work great. They have a sprue on them so when you seat the ball you will need to watch for that.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Thanks Al. Can't believe I let myself get low. Went to Bass Pro, and a Lgs with no luck. They have everything except .50 cal round balls. My old Bull thrower uses round balls only. I shoot a .50 cal Jonathan Browning mountain rifle.

Everything but 50 here to. I shoot sabots but no round balls either. There's a few 2 cavity .490 molds on eBay for $65ish, overpriced but it's an option..
