Henry H006M - Are these 38 specials too round ?

Post by BatterDipt » Fri Jan 15, 2021 5:28 pm

Since nice 357 ammo is so rare around here, I picked up a couple boxes of these Federal 138 gr 38 Specials. Now I'm wondering if they are too round for a tube feed gun and are going to bang the primers from recoil. Opinions and advice please. Thank you, Tom M.

Welcome to the forum from CT. Glad you joined us. As for that ammo, any FMJ has the potential to detonate in the magazine from recoil, and in my opinion those look particularly susceptible.

Henry advises against using any FMJs. You could load them one at a time.

I used Perfecta fmj rounds early on. They had a flatter nose. No problem. I would be more nervous with what you are showing. Single loading makes sense. Live and learn.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

Welcome to the forum and either should work. Nothin wrong with a 38 special revolver at all.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Well, if the range is short or you are just busting cans, get a file or belt sander and make the round part go away. They will be safe and shoot fine, they just will not make nice groups. If you want help deciding if you should buy a new revolver, just to use up this ammo, go here for some sage advice.

Don't think I haven't thought about that. I would say great minds think alike but I don't want to drag you down to my level lol. Took longer than I though to hit lead. I'll try some out tomorrow.

Just heard : " I wish you wouldn't try out this scheme in your brand new Henry. it would be different if you had a crappy gun you didn't mind losing." - Wonderful wife.
