Ammo coming back, or just lucky?

Post by GunnyGene » Tue Dec 08, 2020 4:42 pm

Our local AF Exchange got in a relatively big shipment of 9mm and other ammo (including popular rifle ammo) yesterday. Stopped in this morning and was surprised to see the ammo shelf nearly full. :)

Price wise, it was all a lot higher than I expected. Winchester 9mm 115grn FMJ was $27.95/50rnds, and it went up from there for other brands and JHP rounds. for example; Sig 365 115grn JHP was $35 for 20rnds. A year ago I could buy Hornady 9mm 135 grn +P Critical Duty for less than half that ($32/50rnd) out in town. I reckon those days are gone.

No .41 mag tho. No surprise, there's only a small handful of folks in the area that shoot .41, and half of them are reloaders. Never got into that myself, and too late to get into it now.

Not paying those prices, tho. Got enough of what I shoot to last a good while, so I'll wait it out.

recently I've seen several reports of 9mm bullets being back on the shelf .... I don't own anything that shoots 9mm so it matters little to me .... that said, I do hope its reappearance is a turn of the tide

LGS had similar 9mm for $26.95, 45 ACP and rifle ammo. Owner posted he was driving to get more today and would be open tomorrow.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Can only imagine what primers will sell for when they hit the shelves again! Last year most shops gave you 50 rounds of 9mm free with purchase of the nice cardboard box for $6.99 !

Factory ammo pretty thin up here too right now, but we depend on US for supply quite a bit.

I don't buy factory ammo anymore, so, haven't checked that, but, today, out of curiosity, I checked Midsouth. Midway, Powder Valley.
None had any bullets ( 9mm , .458 ), no primers ( small pistol, large rifle ), or powder. Some said backorder ok, some no backorder.
I can't see any improvement, at least in those categories. Now, I've got plenty, just being curious ( I know what happened to the cat,
LOL ).

I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.

My LGS finally restocked his 9mm and .45 ACPs. The prices are 4-5 times than the going rates a year ago. 9mm is now 92 cents/round and the .45s were running about $1.20/round. All I can say is OMG. Glad I stocked up before all this.

Much harder getting ammo in New Jersey. At local range/gun shop only hand gun ammo for sale is for range use only. $16.95 for Federal 9mm fmj. They are limiting ammo to one box with gun purchase. When They have ammo for sale they don't take advantage of the situation.
