Anybody want 40-60 cartridges

Post by Oldbrass » Sun Sep 20, 2020 8:01 pm

Visited a hunting partner today and he handed me 20 of these. I have never heard of this caliber. They're head stamped ( Rem-umc 40-60) gave them a shake and feel powder. If anyone wants them PM I'll ship No charge just hate to see them go to waste. Does anyone know history of this caliber?

Necked down 45-60. 1876 Winchester was chambered in it. It was hunting caliber but it didnt really have much success popularity wise and faded out around the 20th century. Those old 1876 Winchesters are very cool guns I think.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

1930’s or before would be my guess. I bet it still goes bang.

Yes I bet they would, there's no sign of moisture contamination. Holding this in hand I bet it packs quite a wollup
