50 Amp RV Cord repair and plug replaement

Post by JEBar » Wed Jun 14, 2023 10:57 am

installing 50 amp RV replacement plugs isn't a highly technical task but it can take some effort and be a bit frustrating .... it involves connecting 4 stiff copper wires to terminals in a very confined space .... while the instructions do help, they don't include info several tricks that make it a bit simpler .... as seen below the plastic plugs can and do break and 50 amp cords can and do suffer damage .... temporary patches like the one in blue don't keep out water and for me that is a concern .... my preference is to cut the cord and install an appropriate male/female plug .... by doing so I have a couple of shorter cords that can easily be connected when needed

There isnt anything easy with those cords especially winding one up when it’s about 30 degrees outside

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Had a 50 amp cord on my last rig, man that thing is heavy and unyieldingly. New rig is just 30 amp and I sure like moving the smaller cord around better. Last rig really only needed 30 amp but as it was pre-wired for a second A/C it had a 50 amp setup. I too like cords with grips on them to yank on.
