H006M .357 BBB Mag Rod Spring

Post by ozark75 » Sun Mar 29, 2020 8:59 pm

So, I took the Henry out today to ring a little steel. I haven't had it out in about 5 months. I started having a familiar (to me) issue. It wouldn't load the final round properly. I pulled the mag rod out, and held it upside down. When I did, the little plunger would drop about a quarter inch. I bet this is a problem. If the spring isn't stiff enough to keep the plunger from dropping, surely it won't have enough "oomph" to keep pushing all the rounds into the chamber when cycling.

So, I have two questions:

1. Is there an aftermarket spring available for the mag rod that is a little more robust?

2. Does keeping the mag tube loaded degrade the strength of the spring?

Thanks in advance.

I'm unsure if Henry is open right now or not but it would be worth giving them a call to see .... if they are open, tell them about the issue and your observation .... my bet is you will not have to buy a replacement

Is there something in the inner mag tube stopping the spring to go all the forward?

I think you are probably right JEBar. But, I am interested in an upgraded / better spring for the rod. I had this (and another) issue about a year ago, and they sent me a new mag rod for free. Didnt fix the problem so I sent the gun to them. They installed another mag rod. Still didnt fix the problem. Sent the gun back, they replaced all the internals. Still didnt work properly. They sent me an entirely new gun. I tested it with 10 rounds, worked ok. Put it away for about 5 months. Took it out today for the first time, and what do ya know? Same problem I was having with the previous gun. But this time I noticed the weakness of the spring allowing the plunger to drop a quarter inch.

There does not seem to be an obstruction. The spring seems entirely too loose. When you tip the rod upside down, the little plunger on the end falls into the rod. There isnt enough tension in the spring to hold the plunger all the way out when upside down.

That is really strange, I hope Henry still has their customer service up and running. I read they closed the store.

Any thoughts on an aftermarket / upgraded spring?
