Problem Installing Replacement Stock

Post by smoker317 » Mon Jan 20, 2020 2:32 pm

Hello,

I have a .357 Big Boy Steel, I paid a gunsmith to shorten the stock for a youngster to deer hunt in Indiana (pre-rifle era) a few years ago. Well the youngster is now almost full size and I bought a replacement stock from Henry. I am having a heck of a time trying to get the tang bolt to thread through the stock into the bottom threads.

Do these replacement stocks need to be fitted or am I not holding my mouth right? I put a dab of grease on the bottom of the bolt and it appears that the bolt is hitting about 1/8" behind (rear) of the threaded hole. So this is so close that I am not sure if there is a tip or trick to get it threaded or does some wood need filed?

Dry fitted, the stock fits well with the receiver and looks nice.

.
When you dry fitted, can you see clearly all the way through the screw holes and out the other side? If not the hole may have been drilled out of alignment. Call HenryCS and share with them what's going on. They will very likely send you a replacement. Of course you have the option to try and redrill or file to fit the hole in the stock.

Yes, I can see flashlight completely through and it appears to be lined up. I will call Henry. Thank you for the reply.

have you tried inserting the screw without the stock in place ..... could the problem be with the threads on the end of the bolt or where it screws into .. :?:

please be sure to follow the link below and add your Henry to our community's total .. 8-)

Yes I have inserted the screw without the stock, it threads perfectly.

that certainly eliminates a possibility .... about all that is left is a slight alignment problem
