.357 round barrel outside diameter at the muzzle

Post by MarkB » Mon Jan 20, 2020 2:24 pm

Will someone with a round barrel .357 please measure the outside barrel diameter at the muzzle? I need this to make a sight estimate.

I have a BBS 357 ( round barrel ).
In standard measure it is 41/64th's at the muzzle. Hope that helps. I used a Starrett caliper.

Thank you. I have the CCH .357 with the octagon barrel and I want to see how much higher my front sight is compared to a round barrel. I'll post my octagon barrel muzzle size when I get home.

👍you're quite welcome Mark, and please do. Now I too am curious.
If it helps, bottom of barrel to top of blade, is exactly 1+1/8 inch.

Your sight is about 0.484" above the barrel (1 1/8" - 41/64" = 31/64" = 0.483") and about 0.8125" above the bore centerline (1 1/8" - 20/64" = 52/64" = 0.8125")

Thanks for doing the math Mark! :D

Here are my measurements for the CCH .357 octagon carbine barrel.

Barrel diameter across the flats = 0.826"'
Top of front sight to bottom flat of barrel = 1.231"
My front sight is 0.405" above the barrel and 0.818" above the bore center.

markiver54, your round barrel measured 0.641" in diameter, 1.125" top of sight to bottom of barrel and 0.8125" above the bore center.

So, my octagon barrel front sight is only about 0.005" taller than your sight.

I have mounted a Skinner express rear sight on my CCH. It is taller than the stock sights. I've ordered a Ranger Point Precision Henry front sight listed with a 0.565" height. I'll receive it tomorrow and see how it fits.

Thanks for the info Mark. Seems close enough that you should be able to adjust for the slight difference.
Rear adjustment should allow compensation easily, I would think.
