My thought is those who want a side gate because of a tradition need to take a look at the old original Henry which as we all know was a levergun with a tube feed I might add. I have no preference either I own both. I cant remember drawing blood but I have had one bite my thumb a time or to in the past. Dont remember the gun that did it. I own Winchesters Henrys Marlins and Uberti's.

Yup, the tube feed on the Original Henry is entirely different. There is no inner mag tube to deal with while loading.

No, the point was having to contend with an extended or removed inner mag tube. For comparison the Original Henry rifle tube magazine is fed via an end gate and the sidegate rifle tube magazine is fed through the sidegate. They're all tubular.

Its tubular fed thru a slot at the front of the muzzle, not thru a side gate on the receiver was the point I was making.

Got a question for you. When you load your .38-55 which way do you load it most often?

To be honest with you I havent used it in a field situation yet. I have only shot it at the range off hand and off the bags. When I have done that I have loaded one at a time. But I have carried the 45-70 CCH hunting and with my left hand I held the gun with the muzzle point up so as when the tube was pulled out past the slot where I could drop in 4 rounds it would not slide back and be in my way. Never had an issue. With that Im going to ask JEBar to start a new thread for any other responses because this we have wandered way off what the original topic was.
