Sidegate 3030

I just took my new Sidegate 3030 out of the box. I wish I had seen this at the gun shop! A biff in the buttstock alongside the receiver tang. Had to have happened prior to mounting because the tang is unmarked. Waited two months for this gun. I know this kind of thing is going to happen because I bought this gun to use it, I just didn't expect it to come from the factory this way. Am I unreasonable to expect a perfect gun?

First, congrats on your new sidegate !

Personally, new out of box for me should be perfect, mechanically and cosmetically. Any biffs and 'character' that get added should be at my discretion.
However, hard to tell from your picture how bad it is, I might let that one go or at least contact HenryCS and see if they would send you a new stock. I surely believe they would do that. As an example, I asked for an extra sling stud to buy. Instead they sent me a whole stock with sling stud mounted because the sling stud isn't stocked as separate spare and wouldn't let me pay them for it.

first, welcome to our forum, happy to have you join us .... congrats on your new side loader, I'd love to see one in person .... as to expecting perfection, that's pretty much an individual standard .... personally, I'd expect a rifle costing around $4,000 like a Weatherby Mark V to be closer to perfection than I would a $1,000 Weatherby Vanguard .... that said, I'd have pretty dang high expectations for both .... the good news is, Henry is an excellent company to work with .... since you aren't happy, I also recommend you contact their customer service .... please feel free to jump into ongoing discussions as well as to start more of your own .... also, take a look at our How Many ? thread (link below) and add your Henry to our community's total

Welcome to the forum from CT, and as you've been advised, telephone HRC Customer Service. Call them rather than sending an email. They'll take care of you. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the welcome and the advise. I did send an e-mail rather than calling, so I will wait for their response. The biff has the finish of the rest of the wood, it just has a few compression indentations like from a vise prior to finish application. I gotta tell you, what a beautiful gun! I waited a long time to get my first Henry, and it will probably be my last. I can't wait to get it afield. I will keep posting as the adventure continues.

Let me also welcome and congratulate you. A biff, I can understand. With mass production, there will probably be a few. Would I be concern? Maybe. But, some people don't care as much about my things as I do. So, I would probably live with it, if I could. Sometimes, the fix is worse then the problem. If it shoots, shoot it. As you pointed out, it will probably get dinged along the way. Have fun!

Update: Omar in New Jersey is expediting a new stock. I'm guessing it will be in my hands before the end of the week. Maybe this won't be my only Henry!
