Big Boy Brass 327 Feed Issue.

Post by AMraider » Sat Aug 31, 2019 2:28 pm

I purchased this in July and have been making regular range trips with it to break it in. I have about 250 rounds of American Eagle 85 and 100 grain soft points. It took a little while to figure out the right "firmness" to manipulate the Lever for reliable action. But I was still getting the random jam,FTF and FTE. After the last jam the rounds were no longer being lifted up and into the chamber. They would come out of the tube and sit on top of the Carrier but would not lift up with the closing of the Lever. I could manually insert a round into the chamber, close the Lever and fire just fine. So I did some reading but never ran across anyone having this issue. After disassemby I found the Carrier Dog was broken. (As Pictured) I just sent an Email to Henry to inquire if I could get replacement parts or if I need to send the rifle in. I really want to like this rifle as I have 2 Rugers in the same caliber. It shoots great when it does function. I thought I would post this to maybe help someone should they have the same issue.

I hope to heck they do send you the part and NOT require it being sent in and will be waiting to see the outcome.

I for one would NOT want to send my rifle to them unless it was something cataclysmic that I truly believed it would need to go back for - split barrel, cracked frame etc. something pretty dramatic.

Simple replacement of internal parts do not necessitate it going back

They will make it right and continue to maintain its warranty for the life of the rifle. Keep us posted.

Thanks for posting this AMraider. I agree with what Mistered and CT_Shooter wrote and I read a couple of days ago on the HRA website that they sell replacement parts.
Looking at it from Henry’s point of view, I would understand if they may request that you send the rifle in as that particular chambering for the Henry rifle is fairly new. (2 years?). Best of luck on whatever you decide.

thanks for doing so .... please be sure to followup by posting what you learn .... we've faced both possibilities .... for one issue Henry set us a repair part .... for another, we had to return it to them .... both were done on their dime and both resulted in solving an issue .... bottom line, they will work with you to keep your rifle in action

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

In Marlin parlance-the broken part would be called the “carrier rocker”.

Got a very quick reply from Thomas and a new part is being shipped. That's great customer service!

Glad to hear that! No "ship it back to us" issues!

I know "stuff breaks," but is this a MIM part issue, because this looks like such a piece of metal. Or is it just a fluke?
