Check out ammo seek as there is 41 mag ammo there for less than you are payin GG. 41 mag has always been a favorite of mine. I have a 44 mag pistol but no 44 mag rifle. With a 41 dont need a 44. The 41 will do just fine.
I guess the question then becomes, If you have a 357, do you need a 41?

From what I've researched, the muzzle velocity is about the same, but the energy at 100 yds is almost 2X for the 41 vs. the 357.

Very interesting thread, so thanks for all the insights and stories so far. Always an educational place!

20190619_142756.jpgI can give a review, IT WORKS.
Yep. I kinda wish the reloaders would suspend reloading this cartridge for a couple years and buy factory ammo. Might bring the price down some. 10 years ago I could buy Underwood XTP for about 65cents/rnd. Lately it's up to about $1.20/rnd. Makes for an expensive range trip.

Nice buck, btw. :D
Gunny, as much as I agree with you,
Hard for me not to load for this one.
Besides I have to different molds, and a lot of brass. :D

Been shootin a BH in 41 for many years, always wanted a Marlin 1894, but just never found a deal.
As soon as Henry made one I had to have one. Got #241 :D
It's a dream to shoot even with these 270 pills I cast.
Haven't scored with the Henry yet, but the ole Ruger has taken a couple.

Evan, I would say 125 yds and under I would take over the 357, or the 44.
I tried some 250 gr Corbon's last year, and at 50 yds. it was a heck of a group.
Got a pic. somewhere I'll dig it up.

Want to make sure I'm tracking...

125 yds and under gives the nod to the 41? Even over the 44 Mag?

Evan, not sure about that word need,
But just to be clear, I have revolvers and rifles in all the popular calibers.
357, 41, 44, & 45 colt.

Here lately the 41 and 45 have seen more action, followed closely by the 357.

In my opinion, yes. Less bullet drop with nearly the same energy.
If for some reason I had/needed to sell one of the 4, the 44 would be the one I would let go. :o

The basic problem with most any pistol caliber bullet at 100+ yds is the lousy BC ( most under .2 ). They just aren't designed to be aerodynamic. For that you need a long, pointy, boat tail bullet with a BC up around .4 or better, and 2800+fps MV. Can't get there with a short case, and even if you could you'd have to figure in rifling twist, and now you're up into Rhino gun territory.

For me NEED doesnt enter into it at all when it comes to the 41. I wanted one and the rest is history. The 41 to me is like the 45 colt to RR. If one was the limit the 41 would stay.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

concept well understood and shared .... in my case, I have both a 44 mag pistol and rifle .... have owned a 41 Smith that was a fine revolver but with the 44, I don't need and in my case want another 41 .... arthritic hands are forcing me to come to terms with the concept that I need to work up a light, 44 special load for use in our Redhawk .... doing so will become a priority once we return home in August
