.
40mm. With the scope I'm using the Vortex Optics Pro Series Riflescope Rings (0.75" height) mounted with the skinner mounts that came with the Long Ranger.

This is the math I used to figure out how low I could go. http://henryrifleforums.com/viewtopic.p ... ng#p111155

the taper of the barrel allows you to fit a few more mm worth of objective

My Long Ranger is wearing a Leupold 6x36 on an EGW mount with EGW Practical rings. I'd like it to be a little lower, but it's worked well so far. After installing the base and scope, it shot about 1-1/2 inches high and on center at 50 yards without touching any of the scope adjustments - never had that happen before!

I added a similar rail to my LR but I reversed it, with the "floating" part of the rail over the hammer so I could move the aft ring back a little more. I needed to bring the scope back for good eye relief. Maybe I need a different scope, not sure. I'm at work right now so I don't have the scope specs handy.

This is my setup. It looks a little odd being cantilevered out, but it's got comfortable eye-relief. It's a Diamondback
4-12X40. Maybe I just need new eyeballs!

That is unusual... However, as long as it works for you that's all that matters. I can relate to changing vision with age, it seems every time I pull a gun out of the safe I need to adjust the focus on the scope.

I have a scope mounted on my BBS in .45 Colt and is very accurate with full power loads. Cowboy loads shoot a tiny bit low at 50 yards.

I put a Sig Whiskey-3, 4x12x50 on my .308 and love it. I used the mounts that came with the rifle. See my post on Range Reports.
