Scoping a rifle, regardless of its style, will always be subjective.
I will NOT scope my 'traditional' style lever rifles for a few reasons - I can see the sights well and have found a combination front/rear which gives me an excellent sight picture.
I can understand however if scoping is a necessity due to eye problems and if so then mount a scope by all means! Maybe it doesn't have to be a 'standard' sized 1" scope with a 40 or 50 MM objective but can be one of the smaller, low powered style.
I was very impressed with the two I tried last Friday with a forum member - on his .45 Colt BBS and his .308 Long Ranger.
Both were a smaller, 30 MM size with 1-4 X magnification.

My Long Ranger is wearing a Leupold 6x36 on an EGW mount with EGW Practical rings. I'd like it to be a little lower, but it's worked well so far. After installing the base and scope, it shot about 1-1/2 inches high and on center at 50 yards without touching any of the scope adjustments - never had that happen before!

As to scope or not scope... It is a matter of personal preference and sometimes necessity? I am 68 years old and for the first. time could not read the eye chart at DMV.I Don’t like shooting with glasses on (try duck hunting in the rain). I need a scope to see when I am hunting. I shot a buck this morning and if it had not been for the scope it would not have happened. Of course these rifles look better without a scope but I really love this gun and quite honestly I used to look better with a full head of hair and my own teeth and minus 30 pounds but I was still happy with this mornings results. Please yourself first and remember that you can always take the scope off for display purposes.
