The 20 inch Brass Big Boy is not "a knockabout easy carry rifle". Its a heavy 20 inches! The extra girth in the receiver makes for a wide grip carrying in the field.Settingsun1892 wrote:Been lurking on this site for a month. Bought a Marlin 1895 CB last year. Had never owned or shot a lever before then. Well, I love that big lug of a gun. Lots of extras and polishing made it a fine weapon. Now I'm wanting a knockabout, easy carry rifle. The two I've shortlisted are the BB 357 and the carbine version, both brass. I hate the big loop so will probably go with 20 inch gun. Looking for opinions...

Sorry, my reference was the steel specs. Not sure what they are right now for brass, just that brass is a bit heavier.markiver54 wrote:With only 3+1/2" difference in length and only just less than 1/2 lb different weight, I can feel comfortable with either one.

Looking at them all on the HRA sight the BB Steel carbine at 6.58 lbs does look like a great rifle to kick around the woods with.

Yup. My .357 BBS is awesome for bush work. Personally, I prefer the large loop, and don’t see myself ever buying a standard size looped gun again. I’d actually like to put a large loop on my 1895GS.Ojaileveraction wrote:Looking at them all on the HRA sight the BB Steel carbine at 6.58 lbs does look like a great rifle to kick around the woods with.

I do not have large hands.just average. The first time I ever handled one with the standard loop, to me, was un-comfortable. I want my fingers to go right in that loop with no thought. Plenty of room for a wrap with the large loop also, ( which I did add ).Redthies wrote:Yup. My .357 BBS is awesome for bush work. I like the patina on brass and the metal buttplate. More leaning on the BBB carbine. Give the large loop a try and if I don't like it I bet someone would trade me out for a regular loop

Welcome to the forum. Either BB.357 will be a good choice, and Henry's are VERY nice guns with slick actions even when brand new.

Dropped a note to Henry and they have the regular loops for under $50 so will pick one up after I order the rifle. BBB Carbine 357.

What about the triggers? I've never even shot a Henry. Typically I like pulls 2.5 to no more than 3.5 pounds. Minimal creep. Any tricks to them?
