Carbine Mag Tube Capacity

Post by ESquared » Mon Feb 04, 2019 10:28 am

Just got the BBB 45 Colt Carbine to the range over the weekend, and was pleased to find that the capacity of the mag tube is 8, not 7 rounds. Then I got to looking at the HRA site and there appear to be two different tube lengths, but they both carry a stated capacity of 7 rounds. Just interesting.

For example, here's a pic of the CCH Carbine. Note the length of the mag tube relative to the barrel:

Then there's the beauty shot of the BBB Carbine:

What I don't have is a pic of mine, to see if I somehow got the CCH tube installed on my BBB. Will double-check.

Any of you other carbine owners getting more (or less) than the stated number of rounds in the tube?

The magazine tubes are the same length on both the BBB and CCH carbines, but the barrel length on the BBB is about 1" longer than the CCH.

NO kidding? Because the website says they're both 16.5". Hmmm...

Yea - I know - but when we put our BBB 44 carbine next to our 357 Mag CCH carbine, the BBB barrel is about 1" longer - it looks like it's really a 17 1/4" barrel vice a 16 1/2".

So, does your 44 Carbine hold 7 rounds, or 8?

My BBS Carbine 357 mag holds 8, also.

Thanks, Deano, that makes sense, I guess, as the OAL is within a thousandth. Wonder why Henry hedges on declaring 8? It's not like it's over-stuffing the mag tube.
Oh, well. Other things to worry about...

I was just happy to discover it held 8. It’s like getting a bonus. :D

.
I vaguely remember reading a post about not exceeding the stated capacity of the mag tube. Something about there being too much resulting pressure being applied to the mechanics in the receiver, I think. Unfortunately I'm not finding the older post.

They will both physically hold eight, but we only load seven because that is what the manual says. I remember this came up in a previous post and I think someone got an answer from Henry on it, but I can't remember exactly what the reason was to only load seven.
