Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry
Bolt Removal
Bolt Removal
I am contemplating purchasing a Henry Big Boy Steel Carbine and have a question for you folks. Can you remove the bolt like a Marlin or do you have to remove the trigger plate, trigger group and carrier to get it out of the receiver?

Re: Bolt Removal
Thanks-I was just a little uncertain after watching Henry's disassembly video. I still don't understand why you would not take the main spring out before you remove the trigger pivot screw, but I guess that is not all that important to me at this time. As long I can remove the bolt like Marlin, I am good to go.
Now, I have to decide if I really want to try something a little different and get it in a 41 mag. It certainly is tempting, but I have a lot 35 and 44 components on hand and it is not a logical choice for me-But still....

Like the others have said same as a Marlin. Easy peasy. 41 mag is great but its my favorite caliber. Al

Re: Bolt Removal
What the others said, but since the bolt rides the hammer back to cock it, you'll have to depress the hammer as far down as you can with a spare finger to make it easier to pull the bolt all the way out. Also, don't loose that little springy thing that falls out.

Open bolt halfway. Remove lever screw. Pull lever from bolt. Pull bolt from reciver depressing hammer if needed. Using tweezers or magnet remove Extractor .

Re: Extractor
I have a H006M .38/.357 mag. I've had a problem with the extractor falling out. I lost one last year and Henry sent a replacement. I lost the replacement while at the range. Looking at the slot in the bolt where it sits, it would appear there is nothing holding it in place. I've seen some extractors held in place with a pin that passes through the bottom making it function like a rocker arm.
When you look into the H006 slot you simply see the firing pin.
Has anybody else experienced this?
Thanks
Dennis

Re: Bolt Removal
Just as the Marlin 336 the ejector is in a slot with a hole at the end through the receiver.
A piece of the ejector sets in that hole and holds the ejector in place when the bolt is put in place.
You can see it on the on the back top left side of the receiver.
