CCH Large Loop?

Post by ESquared » Thu Nov 15, 2018 8:04 am

There are now a few of us who have a CCH rifle of one stripe or another, but ownership certainly isn't necessary to weigh in on this.

It's a bit odd to me that Henry's factory spec for this line does NOT include a CCH lever. I'm guessing it's a cost of goods/price point issue.

Anyway, they offer a Large Loop CCH Lever as an aftermarket part for 85 bucks. I have a large loop Henry (SGC), while the rest are small loops, and, from a feel and function standpoint, I couldn't list any differences. I have big hands and, even with gloves (a couple of layers of gloves, in fact), the regular size loop works fine for me. So, to me, it's just cosmetics.

What do you all think? Is the large loop CCH lever too much/too big on the CCH lineup? Is it too much CCH overall? Is $85 just too much for a cosmetic upgrade, no matter how big or small it is?

I'm truly on the fence. Any opinions?

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

IF they ever come up with a large loop lever (CCH or standard blue) for our CCH 45-70 with a pistol grip, I'll place an order the day I find out about it

Yes, if it's not needed. Thats a lot of powder, ball & cap.
And besides I would hardly call it 'cosmetic' - it takes away from the trim appearance of most lever action rifles.

Since you asked, Evan, I will share an opinion even though I don't have a Henry CCH rifle. All of the new SA revolvers I've recently acquired have components that are CCH....that finish does provide a sharp-looking design.

When you noted it is just cosmetics, that is an important part of it. You also said that either the large loop or small loop work well (feel & function) for you on your rifles. If it were me, I would just answer this question about how my rifle looks: Do I like the CCH appearance so much that it would be FUN to have a CCH large loop lever on my Henry? Finally, $85 would not be an excessive expense, if you really want to have a CCH large loop lever.

I've done very little cosmetic changes to my Henrys, and the same approach now for my new ownership of SA Cowboy-action revolvers. Mostly prefer the stock look, as that is how I decide on which firearm to get. I did a little of the "fence riding" you're doing when I special ordered a bronze receiver-mounted Skinner peep to replace the stock rear sight on my SGC. It was spendy. But that "touch of bronze," as I hoped it would, added a really special appearance to my Carbine. Glad I don't often go after such mods; but this one turned out great.

Best as you decide...that is fun, too. Sure hope there are not too many splinters in that fence you're riding!

I think they do offer one on their Henry Pride website - $50 for a big loop lever that fits H010 and H018 Henry's... It is also offered in CCH.

I don't see such a CCH lever (Large Loop for H018/H010) on Henry Pride. Am I just too blind to see it?
