Long Ranger

Post by TraderVic » Mon Oct 22, 2018 2:38 pm

Browsed a gun shop about 45 minutes from my farm awhile ago. They had a Henry Long Ranger 243 sitting there. Did not have time to handle it, but did notice the price on it. Is $ 689.99 ball park for these rifles ?

I've never actually priced a Long Ranger but with an MSRP IS $1,066 that price doesn't seem to bad ....

That's a rock bottom price on a LR. GB is all over the place, but generally $800+. Big Box guys are at about $920.

.
Your $689.99 is the best price I've heard of. Best price I've seen elsewhere, $790. An LR usually retails between $800 and $900. But can be $1000+.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

At this time I'm still studying the LR and caliber(s). I'm hoping Henry will expand the short action calibers a bit in the future. After all, this is still the first year of this new model and Henry is "testing the water".

Looks like a nice rifle though...

My criteria in choosing an LR is cost of ammo and long term ammo availability. At the moment .223/5.56 ammo is the least expensive centerfire and I figure it is going to be around for a long time. My wish for the LR would be for a longer receiver to allow forward throw of the lever to not bump into an extended magazine. A 10 round magazine to me is the sweet spot in mag size.
