Lucky Friday and Saturday
I was at my friends gun shop Friday and he was pulling rifles from the shelf for a Saturday gun bash. He picked up a Henry Long Ranger in 223 rem. and said "This can go to as it has been here a year." He said "If some one offers $500 or more than have their self a gun". It has some really pretty wood and I can't believe it has sat there that long but I have been eyeing it I know for at least a year. I said to him "Are you going to take $500 for it and lose money"? He told me it was not staying any longer. It was tagged at $775. I said "I will give you $500. He said to me "You just bought it". So I now have to wait until Monday until he is back in the shop to pick it up because of being closed for the gun bash today. I just couldn't stop myself from saying I would take it at that price even though I didn't want to spend much money right now with the gun show coming up Saturday.
Well we went to the show and I was actually looking for a better scope for one of my Savage 112 220 Swifts. My daughter come looking for me and said she found a 12X Leupold on an older guys table. So off we went and it was still there. It was marked $350 with a line through it and the new price was marked at $275 which is a deal. I asked to take it out side the door to look through it. I came back and he asked what I thought. I said it was really what I am looking for and is in new condition with the sun shade and instruction manual and the silhouette knobs in the box. I hesitated on getting the money out and he said he knew these were scopes that have a small group that will buy a fixed 12X scope. He said "I will take $225 if that is a good price for you". I hope my wallet wasn't smoking to bad when I got it out. So now my Swift loses the Tasco and gets a fixed 12X Leupold. The Tasco has been and still is a great older Japanese scope that has been very reliable and I have another rifle to use it so all is well except I am broke for a week or so.

Not a bad shopping spree at all, Bandit. I know the Henry MSRP is not used most of the time, but the cost of that .223 Long Rifle was exceptionally good from the sticker prices I've seen! Both your Henry and the scope costs were close to $300 < Henry web MSRP of $1066! Just another way to look at your good deal....Congrats!

I talked with a dealer that sells a lot of Henry's and asked about the 223 Long Ranger. He said I have four 223 Long Rangers now and can't give them away. I said if your giving them away I will take all four because that is even a much better deal than I got yesterday. Then I just walked away.

just wondering .... does that come as much of a surprise to anyone .... being that I have less than zero interest in a 223, it doesn't to me but Henry wouldn't produce them if they weren't certain there was a significant market

Re: Lucky Friday and Saturday
The Range Master today mentioned getting a leveraction rifle again. He did want another caliber, he wanted sometinevhe already had. This time I mentioned Henry has a 556 NATO. That excited him.JEBar wrote:bandit1250 wrote:I talked with a dealer that sells a lot of Henry's and asked about the 223 Long Ranger.
