Some good guesses there. I very briefly considered JB Weld, but that’s pretty damn permanent, so I grabbed the tube of black silicone gasket maker. The brand I have was actually almost an exact match for color and sheen. I can get it out of there in about 2 minutes if I need to. A little masking tape around the slot, and scraped it smooth with a plastic razor blade. A little bit hillbilly, but 100% reversible.

Chewing gum is a great idea too, but I HATE the taste of black licorice!

i can handle cherry once in a while, but ya black licorice is offal. might as well be chewing a tar ball. ah, there is new idea tar ball as a filler. hmmm maybe not. might get a little gooey when the barrel gets hot.

Good idea...I never thought of black silicone. LOL, mine might be even more "hillbilly" than that though...

If your choice brand of barrel filler is "CRAYOLA", you might be a redneck.

Yes I did.

I thought it was electrical tape. But that's a great idea with the silicone, especially if its a high temp. I think it will work as long as it doesn't pose a threat to the finish on the barrel. Im just thrownin this out there, bit i know they also make a satin black spray paint for bbq grills. It's also a high temp paint. It's sprays on smooth and its nothing high gloss. I came across the idea of painting my glass packed mufflers on my truck when i upgraded to a dual exhaust. It worked out great as a smooth high temp finish. Great looking rifle!! I can't wait to hear about the results later on.

Yes, it is a high temp silicone. It won’t affect the bluing at all.

Since you mentioned paint, does anyone know what the finish is on the steel receiver? It’s definitely not blued like the barrel. I don’t recall seeing it mentioned on Henry’s site.

Edit: Found them saying it’s matte bluing on their site. That’s good as the paint thing strikes me as a bit cheesy!

I edited my post... found it on Henry’s site saying matte bluing. I’d be curious if someone says otherwise though...
