30-30 Scout

Post by texex » Tue Sep 04, 2018 3:49 pm

Forgive me if this has been covered. I tried searching...
I bought my Henry 30-30 with the intent of using iron sights. I don't like the aesthetics of a standard mounted scope on a 30-30... That being said, my young daughter may hunt with it now and a scope will help tremendously. Are there any methods by which anyone has mounted a long eye relief scope to the Henry 30-30 (like a "scout" configuration)? What about something in between that mounts on the receiver but doesn't come back behind the hammer?

Your thoughts and ideas are appreciated.

first, welcome to our community .... delighted to have you join our forum .... we have mounted a scope on each of our 3 Henry rifles .... all are standard scopes, none with a long eye relief .... I don't see how the mounting process would be different, it would simply be a manner of finding an extended eye relief scope that works for you .... please take a look at our How Many ? thread (link below) and add your Henry to our community's total

Welcome to the forum, texex, and thanks for adding your rifle to the "How Many" thread. JEBar has some good advice and I'm sure others will contribute their thoughts, too. This is a great forum for sharing information. Glad you're here.

I have a Marlin 336 4-3/4 inch Picatinny rail on mine. Not an XS.

One of the XS Marlin 336 rails might fit. I would expect the 4 holes on the receiver to line up. I could not find mechanical drawings of their rails so I could not say if the rear sight mount hole or step down from the receiver to the barrel would line up.
