We finally got some good weather and I got to the range to sight in my new Henry BBS 44mag Carbine with a Leupold VX-Freedom 1.5-4x20 scope
I shot 5 rounds of Fiocchi JSP 240gr @25 yds, adjusting the scope after the 2nd, 3rd and 4th shots.
Then off to the 50yd range:
I shot 5 rounds using the Fiocchi again, making another scope adjustment after the 2nd and 3rd shots.
I then switched ammo to Federal American Eagle JHP 240gr and shot 5 rounds at 50yds, making a scope adjustment after the 1st shot.
I wanted to accomplish a few things on this initial outing.
- Start breaking in the gun and check it for functionality.....everything functioned normally with both kinds of ammo
- Get the scope roughly dialed in.
- Decide what ammo the gun seems to like best
While shooting the Fiocchi, I was adjusting the scope to POA on each target. That gave me a good idea of grouping and when I switched to the Federal AM I figured the POI would be different so I just made a minor scope adjustment to check out the grouping....I didn't further adjust to POA.
I don't think I can ask for anything more than the final 3 shots going basically in the same hole. I think I'll be using the Fed AM ammo for hunting and I'll dial in the scope for using it next trip
Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry

Very nice scope you have on your Henry. I have a Leupold for one of my AR's. It is fantastic, such great optics and clarity. Yes, and the final three shots going into the same hole is fantastic! Henry makes great barrels.

Excellent report on your first outing
Each of the groups' numbers 3 through 5 shots pulled closer and closer for all your targets, with the 3 "holes-in-one" as the crowning touch. Great start on your road to the hunt!
