Zeroing Our 44 Mag
finding loose screws securing the scope to our BBS 44 Mag, they were all removed, Purple Loctite was applied to the screw's threads, and the scope was reinstalled .... tomorrow I hope to get her to a range and rezero the scope .... in thinking back to not too long ago to firing that rifle on a 200 yard range, I couldn't help but wonder where would be the best place to zero it .... having run our 44 hunting level 240 gr Nosler JHP's through our Chrony, we know they generate a muzzle velocity of +/- 1800 fps .... researching trajectories based on that muzzle velocity and knowing the Nosler's have a ballistic coefficient of 0.173, we have decided to zero it 150 yards .... to do so we will sight it in at 25 yards with the crosshairs centered so that the bullets will hit 1" high .... according to our ballistics calculating program, doing so will yield the following trajectory :
1" high at 25 yards ---- 2.7 " high at 50 yards --- 3.5" high at 75 yards --- 3.5" high at 100 yards --- 2.3" high at 125 yards --- Zeroed at 150 yards --- 3.7" low at 175 yards --- 8.8" low at 200 yards
I ran Zeroing at several other distance and found that the one above yielded the flattest possible trajectory over a 200 yard distance .... for both big game hunting and range work its one I think I will like

Re: Zeroing Our 44 Mag
I'll be doing the same to the .327 sometime this week. I didn't get around to it yet. I had a busy week last week and didn't get the to range. I'll probably go twice this week to make up for it! Give us a peek at your results!

Re: Zeroing Our 44 Mag
Got the Henry .327 out of the safe today and remounted the scope. The front base screw had come loose. Used some Loctite 222 on the screws and cranked them down pretty good. I used the Wheeler torque screwdriver so as not to bust the head off any of the screws. I did use more torque than the guide this time to make sure they'll stay put. I'm off to the range tomorrow to sight in the gun again. I also want to try out the new loads I made with True Blue powder. I'll take out some of the Accurate 9 loads and make a comparison after I get the gun sighted.

Re: Zeroing Our 44 Mag
just got back from taking our oldest grandson to a range .... I only fired 2 rounds from our BBS 44 Mag .... they were at 25 yards and confirmed she's still sighted in about an inch high at 25 yards .... other than those shots I spent the rest of the time working with our grandson .... he was firing two different 22's and his 357 BBS at 25 & 50 yards .... he did well ... back in my wife's home in South Dakota they are having whiteout conditions, down here the sun is out and the sun will drain one's energy rather quickly

Re: Zeroing Our 44 Mag
we certainly were .... it has had a few additions since you were here but still has a long way to go .... once it was clear that the scope on our 44 was OK, at 25 yards it was dead on being an inch high .... I spent most of the day using our Redhawk .... don't know why but today was a good one with it .... at 25 yards its Aimpoint was dead on and I found I really enjoyed myselfThe Wiz wrote:We're you shooting at your son's range?
