.45-70 CCH

Post by Warden1054 » Thu Jan 18, 2018 7:45 pm

I recently purchased a used color case hardened 45-70. The serial number is a bunch of zeros followed by two digits, so I assume it is one of the first 100 made. What year did production on this model start?

It had a scope, which I promptly removed. It just didn't look right. The weather has prevented much range time, but when given an opportunity after the spring thaw I will let you know how it shoots. It sure is pretty. Although used it was in very good condition.

congrats on your CCH 45-70 and thanks for adding your collection to our How Many ? thread .... our CCH 45-70 has quickly become one of our favorite rifles .... we did mount a Nikon scope on ours and its accuracy is outstanding .... will you be loading your own ammo or using factory loads :?:

I load my own. Have made up some 300 grain hollow points that have worked pretty well out of a scoped Marlin, used them to put meat on the ground (2 black bears and a deer). Also loaded up some 350 grain solids. Used "trail boss" powder with those just for "plinking" up close. Drop off quite a bit at 100 yards.

we use Nosler's 300 gr Ballistic Silvertips pushed by 51.5 grs of IMR 4198 ... I order the bullets from Shooters Pro Shops ===> http://www.shootersproshop.com/nosler-4 ... -50ct.html .... their price for what they call Blems is hard to beat .... they are seconds but the flaw is in looks, not performance .... I have no issues at all hunting with them .... I'm also working up loads for 400 and 500 gr bullets

I also own a CCH and have had it since new. I bought it in the summer of 2016. I have accumulated other 45-70s also including the all weather version by Henry. I love the 45-70 caliber. Mine loves 47 gr of RE7 and the 350 gr Hornady. I haven't ever used any 300 grainers in it yet. Al

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I'm new here and I also have a CCH in 45-70. Just bought it October and yes I do love this gun. I have done some reloading with Hornady 350grfn and Missouri Bullets in 405 Hi Tek coating. I have gotten some pretty good loads so far but still playing.
