I have a 1975 Japanese made BLR ( Model 81) in 308 Cal. It is solid, accurate, reliable and a pleasure to shoot. It has a gear driven lever to bolt system and the receiver is steel. The bolt locks into the receiver by way of six lugs and the four round steel magazine extends below the receiver. The newer version of the BLR ( Model 81 ) is also made in Japan but the receiver is aluminum alloy. The bolt locks into the rear of the barrel and not the receiver. The four round magazine is flush to the receiver. I believe the Henry Long Ranger receiver is also made of aluminum alloy.
