Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry
Rifle in .327 Federal
Re: Rifle in .327 Federal
Nicely done. And the rifle kitted out is great! I did not know Henry offered a fabric sling. Hmmm.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

Re: Rifle in .327 Federal
Is there a consensus on the accuracy on the bbs327? The reports ive seen are
Kinda all over the place. Has anyone noticed if the carbine or rifle length are putting out more accuracy. Not that I think these need to be sub moa but something like 1.5 to 2 inches at 50 would keep me happy.

Re: Rifle in .327 Federal
I ended up with both. The carbine does have a "handier" feel about it. I would probably lean toward it if I were going to do a lot of walking in woodland areas, but honestly the 4" of barrel won't make that much difference.
I don't think there is an inherent difference in accuracy, though most will shoot the rifle a bit better because of the longer site radius. If you plan to use a scope it shouldn't make a difference.
I haven't shot it on paper, but it does roll a tin can repeatedly at 50 yards no problem. I'd guess that is about the accuracy you described. I only shoot cast bullets in mine. I'm using .312 115gr RNFP (bhn 15) over trail boss using starline brass and a CCI primer.

The jury is still out for me. I have had what I consider to be serious accuracy issues. You can read the details over in the reloading section. The rifle is on it's way back to Henry right now. Hopefully they will determine what the problem might be and get it back fairly soon.

Often wrong, but never in doubt!
Re: Rifle in .327 Federal
I don't think I could accept 1.5-2 inch groups at 50 yds. I could live with that at 100 yds. I have loaded another 15 rounds with another powder and hope to get out tomorrow. I will post my results again if you would like.

I'm looking for M.O.D. at 50 yards, (minute of deer) and my rifle does that easily with the Federal 100gr JSP and even better with my hand loads.
Works for me.

Absolutely would love to see what the rifle and loads can do

I haven't read through the 20 pages of replies, if this has been mentioned already, my apologies.
Brian Pearce did an extensive article in the February 2015 issue of Handloader Magazine (#294) on the .327 Fed Magnum, and mentioned having an accuracy issue with his handloads.
After trying several die sets from different manufacturers, he found that all of them had too large of an expander ball that resulted in very little (if any) bullet and case neck tension, resulting in extreme spreads and poor accuracy... so maybe it's not the rifle or type of loading that you're using that's at fault.
He got his best results with an expander ball sized down to .3085 inch, and used regular small pistol (CCI 500) primers instead of CCI 550 magnum primers.
