357 loading..

Post by Oksrt » Sat Jan 02, 2021 7:49 pm

Those of you that have 357 rifles, do you have a target load and hunt load, or just one load for all?
Thanks.

our BBS 357 Mag is fun to fire with full power hunting loads .... for that reason we have no real motivation to fire reduce power ammo .... the same is true for our BBS 44 Mag .... the reverse is true with our CCH 45-70 .... its felt recoil of full power loads is so harsh that we have developed a reduce power load

Dont hunt with mine but I have 2 different loads that I like currently. Those loads are based on powder and bullet availability

I am just starting to get into hunting. So, I chose Buffalo Bore .357 180 grain as a round to start with, compariable to a 30-30: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1000772483, and 158 grain and below for general shooting. However, I have only been out with my 30-30 so far. Therefore, I have no experience about the effectiveness. But, I suspect it will be effective on medium size deer (125 lbs or so) at ranges of less than 75 yards.

P.S.
I have not gotten into reloading yet. But, the writing is on the wall.

The Pugnose from Missouri cast goes either way for a bunch of us here. They spank a target hard with some 2400 and Im sure they would bring down some deer sized game. I wouldnt be scared to shoot a deer with it at all. Other than that some 158 JHP from Rose Dist when they have them works to. Currently I use HS-6 under mine as I have alot of it.

GFK, I have no doubt that those 180 gr pills will work fine on deer. As long as you know where they'll hit, I'd say 100-125.yds easy.
Years ago I took a nice 8 point with a 158 gr 357 at about 90-95 yds. He only went a few steps before he fell.

Good luck.

I am not seeing the 180 pugs on their website. Looks like they have dropped them.

Call them. Im pretty sure they are listing what they have for sale at the time. They like all the rest of the suppliers have been swamped. I know a while back they had nothing for sale
