They sure do! I once ran over a ground nest with my tractor. Got stung multiple times, one near the tear duct of my left eye. Still have the stinger mark there. My tractor couldn't move fast enough to get away. They lost interest once I was far enough away.

Those ground ones are bad!! don't really know they're there till it's too late! Wish I was a good enough shot to sit not far away and blast them as they come and go. Dare I use my #4 357 shot shells and shoot in the hole?

Weed eating the front yard years ago and whacked a ground hornet/bees nest. Didn't know till they started stinging. Dropped the weedeater and ran to the deck, jumped in the spa and ducked under. The swarm left. Later, I poured napalm down the hole. No more problem.

Big bugs?

When I was in Hawaii in the 80s, the Tupperware ladies made a killing. They had huge flying cockroaches, 3" long... No matter how clean you kept your home, those nasty things found their way in. They also had huge centipedes. Six to eight inches long, half inch wide, the sting hurt, but burned for a half hour afterward.

The custom gunsmith I knew there also ran a pest control business, and sprayed our place gratis every couple months. Helped, but still didn't stop the roaches completely. Best defense? Pet geckos running free. Two or three...

Diesel. There is a lot of satisfaction watching yellow jackets trying to get into their hole through a burning Diesel flame. Singes their wings right off the evil buggers.

There is some great videos on youtube of people getting rid of hornet and bees nest. Some people have a real problem with a good way to go about it.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

For airborne yellow jackets, I use the yellow hanging traps. Catch a ton of them.
