Lookin' good, Marine. This bin will be a win :!:

Q for you. Which does Miss T prefer -- pull handles or knobs? Wood or metal? I ask because not too long ago I replaced all the handle hardware in my daughter's kitchen. Switched out +65 drawer and cabinet handles. After that "fun & games," I easily know what my choice would be on your bin.

I'll look for whatever you two use. :) Have fun finishing.

She ordered some nice 3-1/2" wide rustic bronze handles from amazon. I'll post pics on Thursday or Friday when I get them installed. :D She had grabbed some glass knobs we had pulled from an old chest of drawers I tossed... But I told her if they were what she wanted I'd install 'em...

But I thought they were "Butt Ugly." ;)
She found new handles.

Last bit of work for today, two sessions.

In the first of the two sessions:
I put the wire back on the three bins.... so the taters and onions don't roll out the backs. ;)

Then I sharpened the card scraper as best I could, I still don't have that down yet. I scraped the sides where there were still some rough spots. Took the bulk of the roughness out. You'd be amazed at how much sanding you save using the card scraper. Finished the job off with a palm sander, but didn't take much.

The back and shoulder were yelling at me by then, so I took a break, layed in the floor and the westie told me how much she missed me.
After dinner, headed back out for another session. THIS one was the payoff. Put the finish on the cabinet.

If you look inside the cabinet, you can see that I used the floor of the cabinet for the bottom section brace, but the middle bin and top bin have a brace mounted at the back to insure the bin is fully supported at the back and stays level.

Not much more to do now. I have to attach the cutting board top, and the handles when they come in Thursday. Once I attach the handles, I will put the hinges on, which will finally attach the bins. I have the trim for the base cut out, I am just wondering if we need the three or four inches of lift. I'll discuss that with the boss and get her input. It's her bin after all. I know how I would build the base, just a matter of whether she wants the extra height.

If I don't use the base, I'll use the spalted maple pieces on another project. Certainly won't go to waste. :D

Oh yeah, everything has to be waxed, at least two coats... maybe three. ;)

Out this morning to wax... and rewaxed the bins. Then waxed the cabinet and buffed them out. Set them in place and they are looking good. Set the cutting board top in place, will attach everything when the handles and all come in. Still haven't gotten a chance to decide on the base.

The wax I use is a British bees wax.

The cabinet and bins put together... for a test view.

Angled view. The best side of the cabinet. I used this side panel on this side of the cabinet, since it will be seen most.

I set the cutting board top in place and took an overhead shot... I think it compliments the cabinet well.

The bulk of the job is done unless Miss T decides she wants the base, that will take an extra day. :) If she doesn't want the base, it will become a box. :P

*** Note, the interior of the bins will NOT receive any finish because they will contain food. Miss Tina may decide to line them with contact paper of some sort, or some type of removable (read this replaceable) foam or plastic trays.

The handles came in late this afternoon. While was waiting, I got the cutting board top attached. Slow but sure, measure, check, measure, check. Still waiting for the handles, I modified something on my storage cabinet I built ten years ago, that I was never happy with. Nope, still no UPS.

I had half a bucket of mixed screws, nuts, bolts, and assorted hardware... Years of someone tossing leftovers into that bin rather than putting them away. (She shall remain nameless.) In addition, I would toss extra hardware from kits in the bucket. (Often kits come with two lengths of bolts, I save the extras, you never know.) We also remove hardware that is still good if we disassemble... ;) I spent a couple hours sorting that bucket while listening to the radio, and waiting. :D

ups finally arrived during dinner. No worries. I still got the handles and hinges installed. The project is done, and installed in the kitchen. I took pictures of the time and care taken for these final steps, but they won't get posted until tomorrow... Pain levels, but I wanted to see this thing... :D Needless to say, the boss is pleased.

.
Very nicely done! I have a question, what keeps the spuds and onions from falling off the back of the individual bin and into the lower bin when there is a lot in them in there and you open a bin?
