I have a 75 gal. and a 30 gal. tank. Both are fresh water but we are thinking about trying the 30 with salt water. We have had tanks almost as long as we have been married, going on 43 years.

I got involved with a fish tank club in the Corps, but always had small tanks. A couple guys in the group had several 200 gallon tanks, with larger fish. Oscars the size of plates that churned the water at feeding time. One guy had an 18 inch arawana in his tank, it was something to see. Those guys has thirty gallon tanks just for raising feeder fish for the big tanks.

I mainly had fish for the kids, neon tetras and the like. It's been thirty years.

I have had a 20 long tank setup for about 15 years. A few Danios and Corey Cats. The cats are my oldest residents. Actually started with one female and two males. Wound up at one time with five more babies that survived. Back down to three now with the original female. She must be 100 now in fish years. :D

I had like 6 of them at one time both salt and fresh. 55gal all the way up to a 75 gal. The only thing that keeps me from getting another one is the wife and when you leave someone needs to feed them. If I was to do another it would be a salt tank. There easier now to do than when I first had mine. I mixed my own water. The local pet store now sells the water mixed at a reasonable price. The filtering equipment is also alot better than it use to be. Al

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I am just amazed at how a lot of us have gone down the same path through the years. I would love to get a 180 gal. tank but the wife says no. I guess I can't complain, especially when se said yes to an 1860 Henry.

I too have had tanks of various sizes over the years. My kids grew up with fish, named them, mourned them, and in some cases, buried them. Shortly after that " Hey Dad, we need more fish." comes up. I enjoy mucking in the tank, cleaning, rearranging the decorations and yes, talking to them. My granddaughter and I go shopping for fish together and argue over what to get. She usually wins. ;) My son has finally got a tank and she is in charge of it.
On a sad note, when I move to NC later this year, the tank and the fish are not coming. Some of the fish have been with me for years. My son will take what he can if he has room but I think I will have to rehome most of them.

This is what I have now:
3 cichlids ( Acie, a yellow lab, and one of unknown species. He is a pretty orange color but mean.
1 red tail shark
4 barbs (various)
4 blood fins ( tetras)
1 Black skirted barb

Fun tank to watch.
