Marantz Stereo Receivers
Re: Marantz Stereo Receivers
In my early high school years I had a friend who had a friend a few years older than us who was an audiophile. I remember going over to his house and being in awe of his stereo setup including Marantz equipment. He was pretty proud of having Marantz and that earned my respect for the brand. Seems like in those days it was common to have a separate amp and tuner. He also had a reel to reel tape player which was pretty rare to see in a home.
Cool stuff Sir Henry and we’ll enjoy seeing your progress.

All the real audiophiles had reel to reels. I remember having a Radio Sh_t, I mean Radio Shack 8-track.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 9:55 amIn my early high school years I had a friend who had a friend a few years older than us who was an audiophile. The 2230 I’m looking at is listed as 30 watts per channel which means it’s more like 40. Marantz did make several separate amps and receivers but 90% of the music I’ll listen to is radio. One nearby station, WJBL “The Cabin” 93.1 FM in Ladysmith, plays classics hits without a lot of talk or announcements over music.
It’s just one of many FM stations I get. I also get the Brewers games. I gave up satellite TV because I didn’t watch it much so having a good radio is important. While I get good radio I don’t get good antenna TV.

I bid on a rebuilt 2230 that looked brand new. My high bid was $1,050 and it sold for $1,275. I bought a ‘baby’ 2010 for $400. I’m still looking for a higher powered unit, either a 21xx or 22xx series.

I bought a second Marantz. It’s a rebuilt 2215. And I bought a pair of 33355 speakers. They should make a good pair. I’ll post pictures and report on the sound when I get them.

I remember getting my first CD player. Stopped by the BX on the way home from Reserves. They had one on sale, I made an impulse purchase. Got home and hooked it up, and listened to the two CDs I bought along with it. I unhooked the turntable, and put it in the closet. It's probably still there.
At my age and work history, I probably shouldn't spend much money on quality stereo gear.
Every stereo I listen to has severe hiss. Even when it's off.

That hiss is a snake. A Henry Garden Gun would take care of them.clovishound wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 9:52 amI remember getting my first CD player. Stopped by the BX on the way home from Reserves. Re: Marantz Stereo Receivers
My Marantz 2215 receiver arrived today and I hooked the Marantz 33355 speakers up. Man this is a sweet sounding system. At 15 watts it’s not a big boom box. At lower volumes it really has a warm sound. Below it is a cheap shelf unit with MP3.
I have several vintage post war tube radios coming. They are mostly Art Deco and will fill the vacant shelves. I don’t have a proper antenna hooked up and just used speaker wires and ran them up the stairwell.

This set up is not for everyone but some people just go a little nuts. This is a friend of mine's setup.
