Vintage Trailers

Post by Redthies » Tue Jul 30, 2019 10:26 am

Any of you guys ever had or have a vintage travel trailer in the family? I’m now making my living resto-modding Airstreams. It’s a nice change of pace from the construction world. I found a book not long ago that is a “field guide” to vintage trailers and there are some really cool brands and models in it from the early 1930s to the late 1970s. If you’ve got or had one, post up a pic!

Some of my clients trailers below:

Went to a Vintage Trailer meet a few years ago, well over a 100 trailers there. It was at Roslyn, WA. where the tv show Northern Exposure was filmed, got to have a couple beers at the Brick.

I’ve got two 1965 Airstreams on the go right now. Seems to be a popular year for trailers!

Considering their shape, seems like they would require some pretty custom work. ;)

I use a CAD* system for a lot of things due to the curves. It’s the best way to avoid costly screw ups.

* CAD- Cardboard Aided Design.

Good idea. Have had to use that trick a few times. A lot safer than trying to lay it out dimensionally.
Funny; I did use a true ( CAD ) system ( Computer Aided Design ) for many years. I was a Folding Carton packaging designer.

Seems to me to be like a cult following with Airstreams. I have looked at them but they never did much for me so I have never owned one.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......
