I know (literallly) nothing about them .... how about some info on your choice of a 4bt Cummins

Not sure what you want to know about the 4bt. But, it is referred to as the "little Paint Shaker". It is basically a 4cylinder version of the 6bt that Dodge started running in 1989. In fact it it uses a lot of the same parts, everything but parts such as the crankshaft, and cam. The injector pumps are also similar just made for a 4 cylinder instead of a 6 cylinder,

The advantage of the 4bt for a build like this is the shorter length due to the missing 2 cylinders. And, they only weigh ~780 lbs compared to the ~1100 lbs for a 6bt. The biggest downside is the vibration. Stock they are anywhere from 90 hp to 130 hp making around 300 ft/lb of torque. Easily bumped to over 200 hp with a change of the turbo and injection pump modifications. Most 4wd swaps will average between 20-30 mpg for fuel consumption depending on the tune and final drive ratio.

I've built other vehicles over the year with gas motors, have never done a build with a diesel. That and I'm getting old enough that I don't need to go flying through areas at full throttle to keep the motor in it's power band, and the diesel makes enough power low in the rpm range that you can wander through the woods just off idle and enjoy the view.

Besides 20-30 mph sounds a lot better than 5-15 mpg on the street with the current cost of fuel!
