well, today proved to be an even shorter travel day .. ;) .. our first stay at Colorado River on our current trip was from Jan 18, 2020 through Feb 28 .... during that stay we were on site C5 (link to Campground Map ===> https://rvonthego.com/media/com_rv/uplo ... 305234.pdf ) .... the map in the link is an old one .... the red sites in C and D sections were updated to 50 amp a few years ago .... while we were hear we heard comments about problems with 50 amp on sites C 29 - 35 .... when we arrived here yesterday (2-25-20) we learned that the 50 amp service on all red sites in sections C&D are out of service .... staff has no clue for how long .... this campground is usually over booked and its normal for folks who check in to have to spend some time on a non sewer site before they can be moved to one with full hookups.... as I have mentioned in other post, they routinely overbook Thousand Trails Colorado River Campground so we setup on site D5 (pictures 1&2) which has water and a 30 amp electrical hookup .... first thing this morning we were advised that site C9 (a 30 amp, full hookup site shown in pictures 3&4) was available so we packed up and moved to a site that can be seen looking over the hood of our truck in the second picture .... the last picture blow shows current site's power pedestal .... the 50 amp receptacle has been covered .... a notice is displayed at the CG's office (where you check-in upon arrival) that outlines the change and list a fine that will be imposed on anyone who removes cover

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

don't know for sure .... when we were here a week ago we heard that water got into some of the lines during the last flood .... yesterday we were told that back when they upgraded and added 50 amp to the red sites in sections C&D their electric company didn't increase their power sufficiently to handle the load .... either or both may be true .... the bottom line is, the folks who work here don't believe it will be fixed any time soon

this morning we awoke to subfreezing temps for the first time and (as usual) to seeing deer tracks on our campsite .... this morning the tracks had deer standing in them .... no major plans for the day, sure looking forward to tomorrow's predicted high of 71

when you make a reservation with Thousand Trails they "guarantee" you a place to park .... no guarantee as to level of hookups .... when you get to a park, most will give you an idea where their are open sites .... you drive around and find one you like and setup camp .... you then drive back to the "Ranger Station" where you checked in and tell them which site you are on .... strictly first come, first serve .... our favorite area is E on any site from 58 - 70 .... link to map ===> https://rvonthego.com/media/com_rv/uplo ... 704157.pdf .... its been over a year since we've found any of them open ..... if/when a site you like better than the one you are on, so long as you notify the Ranger Station, they do allow folks to move to a different site ..... in recent times we've been on various sites in section G which is a good area for us ....

Having site maps for RV parks anymore is about irrelevant. Im starting to inquire for next Jan And Feb to Texas. My wife wants to be down closer to the water. So far I'm on a waiting list at one place and in a call back situation in another. We may end up in a totally different area. Just depends on availability. We have looked at the Lake Conroe site as a possibility. If we were to book there though I dont think I would be moving as much as you folks do I kinda like staying in one spot.

we really like Lake Conroe .... I don't know how they work longer term site rentals but I'm sure a call to them could quickly provide all the info you may need

it does well .... three days ago we had a fellow stop at our campsite and ask to look at our truck .... after looking at it and hearing it crank up, he (literally) pulled a thick roll of cash out of his pocket and told me to name my price .... I told him I wasn't interested in selling it and, lets just say, he didn't want to hear it .... I finally told him $150,000 .... he told me he could buy a new one for that and I agreed by saying that's what I'd have to pay to replace it .... before leaving he insisted on me keeping his name and phone number .... still have that info but don't anticipate calling him ... ;)
