The Weather Ain't Been Our Friend

Post by JEBar » Tue Nov 20, 2018 8:48 am

there is an old saying about bad things coming in 3's .. :? .. in short, weather hasn't been our friend .. :( ..

months in advance we booked a motel for a September getaway to Carolina Beach .... shortly after checking in, we were ordered inland due to the imminent arrival of Hurrican Florence ....

months in advance we booked a 3 week stay in Virginia at one of our favorite campgrounds ... 3 days after we checked in, Hurricane Michael hammered the area, knocking our all utilities .... we had to head back home ....

with a site booked in Asheville where we planned to spend Thanksgiving, in October we booked a 3 - 4 day roof install on our camper to begin Nov 12th .... rain delayed the process so that it didn't start until Nov 16th .... cold temps and some light rain resulted in it taking 5 days to complete the project .... this delayed the time for the products used to cure, so our reservations have been cancelled and we are having to make other arrangements

with a January 2019 trip to Texas that was booked back in early August 2018, we sure hope the old saying is right ..

Just wondering why it was you needed a new roof on your trailer?

as you know, most RV rubber roofs have a 10 -12 year lifespan .... that's not usually an issue because most buyers of new campers don't keep them that long .... our camper was built in Oct '05 so it is now over 13 years old .... it sits outside and that exposure has taken its toll .... the section shown below was removed so as to remove and replace a piece of roofing plyboard .... as can be seen the white outer part of the roof has weathered to where in many places the black second layer can be see and in places that outer covering is cracking .... in short, we pushed it about as far as we could but has reached point where the gamble just isn't worth it

Sorry about your trip. Seems like it would have been nice. My wife and I seem to like the Bryson City/Maggie Valley area. Thought about buying some land around there. Still may.

Sorry about your camping club losing its last 2018 outing. We get icy conditions too often here in KC.
Absolutely impossible to navigate on ice...but 'tis simply the best thing for those folk who love to ice skate. ;)

the weather still isn't our friend but the new camper's roof is in place and seems to have cured properly .... the pictures below are only a few of the ones made by the installers .... they start with the way the roof looked when they started and end with how it looks now .... in between they show steps taken along the way .... it is truly an impressive process
