Transit Towing The Teardrop

Post by Sir Henry » Sun May 07, 2023 7:56 pm

I hooked the teardrop up to the Transit today. On Friday I’ll take the Transit/Teardrop on its maiden overnight voyage.

Looks like you've got room to sleep four with that setup.

The van will sleep two comfortably. On the trip to Texas the backseat was down and made into a completely flat bed.

I just made a five mile trip into town and it pulled it like it wasn’t even there. The Transit was built to pull and it has three different pulling modes that are driver set. It makes it nice for going down the freeway on level ground and over a high pass.

My motor home, teardrop and my Outback which was my original TV.

I went for a 278 mile drive today pulling the teardrop and averaged 21.1 mpg which is fantastic! It’s only rated to get 18 without the trailer. I went east on US2 till I hit US45 and then headed nort to US2 till I hit WI13 and headed south. Traffic was light and I was doing 50 in a 55 mph zone.

I did make about a dozen stops to read the roadside markers. I’ve always enjoyed stopping to read them and will seldom pass one without stopping.

Since Wisconsin doesn’t require a plate for lightweight trailers I had this custom one made. The Tour is for my Subaru Touring Outback and 931 is the number of my trailer. I use TOUR931 as my name on the teardrop forum.

Pretty nice rig Gene. Good mileage and you don't even feel it. Can't beat it.

Wow, that teardrop sure tucks in behind the van nicely. I bet it is a very different driving experience towing the the van v the Subaru. Not that the Sub isn’t fully capable of towing the teardrop.

Interesting that the Wisconsin plate on the teardrop is the green and white like our old Washington plates from back in the day. Looks great!
