1lb Disposable Propane Bottles
we have a few camping appliances that are designed to run off of 1 lb disposable propane bottles .... https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Propane- ... 134&sr=8-4 .... while there is no doubt that they can really come in handy, I've found their negatives outweigh their positives .... not the least of the negatives is the fact, as can be seen in the link, they are expensive .... other negatives include the propane will freeze if they are used with an appliance that requires a good bit of propane .... the first two pictures show a frozen tank that was powering a single burner set on medium/low in our 3 burner camp stove .... thus my motivation for asking, if anyone using these bottles refills them ..????.. if so, any insight you may have would be appreciated

Re: 1lb Disposable Propane Bottles
I always thought those weren't refillable. Maybe I'm wrong. I haven't purchased those in years. My goodness, have they gone WAY up in price! I don't think your pictures loaded if you intended to post them.

They have a side port where they can be refilled, but I haven't seen or heard of any place that will refill them. I quit buying them, bought a hose adapter 'T and hoses to connect our 2 burner stove to a 5 gallon tank.

I did much the same thing .... rigged up a hose that runs from our camper's quick disconnect fitting to whatever appliance I'm using

I believe only the Flame King brand is DOT approved for refilling.
https://www.amazon.com/Flame-King-Refil ... 012&sr=8-3
On a side note the 5 gallon cans can only be filled 80% or 4 gallons and the ready filled ones are only filled to 3.5 gallons.

According to the product description you buy their (sold separately) refill adapter and refill them yourself. Likely work to refill non-DOT tanks too.Sir Henry wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 4:16 pmI believe only the Flame King brand is DOT approved for refilling.

Re: 1lb Disposable Propane Bottles
Just for info, according to Walmart.com, those bottles are about half that price at the local Wally World stores at about $9.50 a two pack. Sometimes Amazon is way over priced. Shipping may be the issue with these.
I would feel better about a 20 lb tank conversion hose, than trying to refill disposable bottles. I know the size on the 1 lb bottles is convenient, but the larger bottles are probably not an issue for a lot of camping situations. Also, those 1 lb bottles don't last long.

I’ve been doing it for a long time. Bought this one.

Just have to check old tanks for rust.
