New (to me) Mower
about 3 years ago a very good friend since High School passed away .... we literally hiked, hunted and fished a large portion of NC's Great Smoky Mountains .... we spent 4 years together in College, both traveled the country in our campers .... his wife and he are considered members of the family, our kids refer to them as being an Aunt and Uncle .... the also served as a second set of grandparents for three of our grandchildren .... his wife has decided to sell their home and land so that she can move to a smaller place in town .... about 5 - 6 years ago he bought a Cub Cadet LTX 1045 .... he used it for about a year prior to developing lung cancer .... after reaching a point where he couldn't continue mowing their 3+ acre lot, one of his in-laws stepped in and has taken care of the mowing for the last 4+ years .... with his wife moving to town, she no longer needed the mower and asked me if I'd like to have it .... we quickly settled on a price and even though I really don't need another mower, its now ours .... actually, it couldn't have come at a better time because our John Deere tractor is in the shop .... the Cub Cadet is shown in the pictures below .... its 20 hp Kohler engine runs smoothly .... today it mowed about 6 acres of thick grass and now has 141 hrs on it .... she isn't in pristine condition but I know it has been kept in a building, has been well maintained, does seem to be mechanically sound .... the only thing I know of that it needs is a new blades and a spare key or two .... both are on order .... the fact that it belonged to my friend will ensure it will stay in the family for as long as possible

Good story, and nice looking Cub JEBar.
I have a fondness for Cub Cadets. While going up in ND, my Dad was an International Harvester dealer in a small town.
I spent a few hours mowing grass on Cub Cadet's in my early years. After many many years, I now have one like I used to ride.
I don't cut grass with it, but do ride it around from time to time. They are not so common here in Arizona!
Enjoy your Cub!!

WOW, 6 acres of grass. I think that sounds great! I know that's a lot of grass, but the room would sure be nice!JEBar wrote:actually, it couldn't have come at a better time because our John Deere tractor is in the shop .... the Cub Cadet is shown in the pictures below .... its 20 hp Kohler engine runs smoothly .... today it mowed about 6 acres of thick grass and now has 141 hrs on it ....
Nice to hear that Cub Cadet is up to the task.

Re: New (to me) Mower
I wish it was all ours but sadly its not .... about 3 1/2 belong to my friend's wife from whom we bought the mower .... the other 2 1/2 belong to us .... our oldest son mows about 20 acres .... he has the largest Grasshopper mower made .... talk about one heck of a mower ..NoFlyZone wrote:WOW, 6 acres of grass. Re: New (to me) Mower
My parents bought a cub cadet like that one. It does a surprising amount of mowing for what it is. Keeping the deck clean is the biggest problem. It has around 250 hrs on it. It mowed up to 6 acres in it's prime. Now it gets used once in a while.
Since it was your friends, I'm sure it will be just as well cared for with a certain fondness. Your sons mower is impressive.
