My stepson's friend posted a Farmall Cub last year for a friend of his who was not a computer person. It was in excellent shape, came with a lot of attachments and was not far from me. It was priced higher than I would pay, but not too bad. I spoke with the man finally over the winter. He had the young man list it to see what response he would get. He wanted it to go to someone who would use it. It had never been left outside, ever. He was the second owner since 1974. It was a 1959 according to his research. He lived next to the original owner at one point and knew the history of this tractor. We met at the first week of April where he stored it. He starts it once or twice a month. It was all original and in great shape for it's age. It served him as a snow plow tractor and grass cutter. It also has cultivators and a land plow. Some of the miscellaneous items have the labels still on them and most of the items have the wire ID tags still present. The only downer was he stored everything in his houses basement and it was damp. All the accessories that weren't greased or oiled got surface rust. Anyway, I was impressed enough to make an offer. I brought it home in the sunlight Monday.
I used to have one about 10 years older than this one that my father gave me. It was sold when I had to sell their farm. Now I have another one and my collection for my small farm is complete.
It's hard to find one that hasn't been altered, repainted, rusted etc. It now resides in my barn.

That one is supposed to be 10 hp but 8 or 9 hp is more like it I'm led to believe. They started production in 1947 and ended in 1979. They used the same engine throughout the 32 years. Over time there were improvements to the engine and the horsepower was increased a lot. I think they ended up being a 16 hp tractor.

Here are some pics today. I drove over to my step son's last night to show it to him. I use a battery operated orange blinking light on the rear to help visibility when going on the roadway.







It's pretty wet in some spots so the tires got muddy. It will have to wear off with use. This won't be a show pony, it will earn it's keep.

So are you going to cut a little hay with it?

No, I will be taking the sickle bar mower off soon. I don't have much use for it right now. I have a DR walk behind brush hog that is awesome and that will cut paths in the pasture as the grass / weeds grow. My main goals with this tractor are the land plowing and cultivating. On a secondary responsibility, both my step son and I have gravel driveways that the grading blade will handle for us. The blade can be mounted in front of the tractor or mounted at the midpoint like a grader blade. None of these implements change out fast, but it will be a labor of love.

Understand, was just thinking you might just play with it a bit, seeing how you had it all mounted up.
Kinda curious as to how effective it was.
The grading blade mounted in the center should work well on the driveways.
Lol, I know they aren't the quick detach of the day.

Hey All,

Sickle bar mowers work fine just nowhere as fast as modern hay mowers. You just have to know how to sharpen and change sections and occasional Pittman arms. A wide front is a good idea as lightweight tricycle tractors will turn hard right (front wheels slide right) in a heartbeat if the mower encounters thick grass or vetch type vegetation. I know first time it happened to me I was surprised. Nice tractor.
