Henry 30-30 ( H009B)

Post by james89 » Sun Aug 30, 2020 12:57 pm

So I'm looking for some advice and wisdom on sights or scopes for my 3030. The more I shoot this the more I think that I might need more then the open sight it has for the 100 to 150 range. I will barter photos in advance ;)

Everyone has their favorite, (or preference) and mine is a Leopold 2x7 for both the 45-70 (as pictured) and the 30-30. In my opinion it is a great scope for 200 yards and under.

Another thought:
This is a Marlin 45-70 with a Nikon 3x9 which is also a nice scope. The nice thing about this setup is that the scope is mounted on a Skinner peep sight with quick release mounts. So, you can quickly switch from a scope to an open peep sight in a matter of seconds.

I have a marlin 1895 in 45-70, I love the stock sights on it. That sight is the reason I might not get a full scope for the 30-30 I'm honestly unsure what to do but I feel like guildence will help me stay accurate as I move farther out.

I don't have any pics handy but I like the Redfield 2x7 on my 336.

what would you say a peep is ideal for? I was thinking of a Skinner peep at one point

When you are in close quarters, or need quick target acquisition, or in my case, my eyes cant pick up on the buckhorn sights anymore, but I can see through the peep just fine. The nice thing about the combo set-up (scope and peep) is that if your scope has issues, (snow or water in the lenses, etc.) you can quickly take it off and use the peep.

I have one of those on one of my 35 Rem. Marlins.
Great scope.
I also like the 1x4's for lever guns.
But I do have a couple with 3x9's.
